Pressure applied in a confined fluid is distributed equally in all directions .Refer pacal's law .Put force on a smaller area and then make the hydraulic force.

If you have saw the diagram the of hydrolic lift then you can easily understand this
so According to Pascal's law
pressure on both the side of lift will be same
Let a and f be the cross section area and force applied on smaller portion and A and F be cross section area and force on the larger portion.
so if the pressure will same then
F/A = f/a
F = (f/a)*A
so if we increase the area of cross section at larger part then the force will also increase at that part
but

the only diffrence is that the displacement will decrease
means if we displaced the piston at smaller portion about 10cm the piston at larger portion will displace only 3cm
so the amount of energy will be same and the work done will also same but force increase.
