Galvanizing is the coating of zinc on any part (iron/steel) that it can deposit on the surface in the form of a thin layer by Electrolysis process.

Parts and sheets made of iron are prone to corrosion due to external agents like water and oxygen (abundant in the air). This causes the oxide formation of iron, Ferrous Oxide (Fe2O3), more commonly known as rust.

Formation of rust causes the part to deteriorate causing the iron piece to be of no use. Hence Galvanizing is used on iron parts to protect them from surface corrosion.
