After his missionary work, it was believed Guru Nanak settled at Kartarpur. The gurudwara has been built to respect the spot. Pakistan built the corridor connecting the gurudwara to the Indian land which they have declared to open in November of this year.

Visa-free travel permits have been granted to the Indian pilgrims by the official of both sides using the Kartarpur corridor. Kartarpur became a part of Pakistan after the partition of 1947.
