Mesopotamia is located in valleys between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, which are today's Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Kuwait. Earlier there was a huge disparity in the sections of Mesopotamian society-:
- Mesopotamia was a name which meant in between or in the middle of the river. Ancient society was earlier divided into three groups of classes that were the upper, middle and lower classes.
- The upper-class group consisted of the rich and elites and included the monarchs, kings, merchants, priests, etc. They lived a life of luxury in huge palaces, ate high-quality food and wore expensive clothes. Their work was done by the lower-class people who served them.
- The second class which was the middle class included people like artisans, merchants, officials, etc. They too lived a life of benefits but quite lesser luxury than compared to the first class.
- The lowest class people formed those who lived miserable lives and served the first and second classes. They had to do odd jobs to meet their ends.
- One significant disparity was that when an individual from the higher class died, their body was buried along with riches, gold and valuable things but the bodies of the lower class people were buried with ordinary stuff. There was a huge disparity between these sections wherein the rich ones were privileged and the lowest ones lived a life of misery.
