A few years ago, a team at the National Physical Laboratory of India, New Delhi, led by Poonam Arora built India's first atomic clock with caesium atoms (the authors of the 2014 paper quoted earlier). This clock is India's current frequency standard – the machine that defines how time is measured in the country.
