The hard palate is a thin horizontal bony plate made up of two bones of the facial skeleton, located in the roof of the mouth. The bones are the palatine process of the maxilla and the horizontal plate of palatine bone.

Nerve: greater palatine nerve, nasopalatine nerve

Artery: greater palatine artery

Some points about hard palate are as follows-:

(1) It is located at the anterior part of the palate.

(2) It is made up of the maxilla and the palatine bone in a human body.

(3) Some protections or some transverse ridges are found at the ventral surface of the hard palate which is known as palatine rugae.

(4) During the process of mastication palatine rugae which helps in stopping of the food going outside from the buccal cavity.

(5) In carnivorous animals those palatine rugae are very well developed.

Some points about soft palate are as follows-:

(1) It is located at the posterior part of the palate.

(2) There are some finger like projection coming from the posterior out growth which is known as uvula or velum palati.

(3) In the uvula at the dorsal side some internal nasal pores are present.

(4) Uvula protests entering of the food in the nasal chamber during ingestion of the food.

(5) Two lymph nodes at the lateral posterior surface are found which is known as tonsils or palatine tonsil.
