The old man is sitiing at one side of the pontoon bridge. He does not move because he is too old ,he is very tired as he has traveled a lot of distance. Also he is thinking about his animals that would they be live or been killed in the war.

Answer:
On one side of both the pontoon bridge, an elderly guy is sitting. He is unable to move since he is very old and exhausted from his lengthy journey. Additionally, he considers if his animals will survive the conflict or die fighting.
Explanation:
The Old Man remained where he was because he was too exhausted from his long journey.
The elderly man was seated on the bridge on one street's other side. He doesn't move, unlike the others, because he is too old (76 years old) and too exhausted to go any further after having walked twelve kilometres since leaving his birthplace of San Carlos.
