The process of evaporation is used in large scale in obtaining salt from seawater. 

Salt is obtained from seawater by the process of evaporation and crystallization. The seawater is collected in huge shallow pits and left there for the water to evaporate. Thus the seawater gets concentrated. As more and more water evaporates, the solution becomes supersaturated and the crystals of common salt separate out. The crystals are then removed, refined to separate the impurities and then distributed for use.
