The world's longest railway tunnel goes by the name Gotthard Base Tunnel and is located in Switzerland. It opened on 1st June 2016 ans began full servicing on 11th December 2016. It has a length of about 151.840 km. It stretches from Erstfeld and ends at Bodio. It first began construction on 4th November 1999. It has 2 single track tubes. The Gotthard Pass has been an important trade route from northern to southern Europe. While construction, four tunnels were built so that the construction could start at for different sites.
