The center of mass is a position defined relative to an object or system of objects. It is the average position of all the parts of the system, weighted according to their masses. For simple rigid objects with uniform density, the center of mass is located at the centre.

The position of centre of mass depend upon (1) its shape and (2) the way mass distributed on its shape. These two factor decide whether centre of mass of gravity lie inside the body or outside the body.

it's not necessary that the centre of mass of a body should lie inside the body. Consider a circular ring, its centre of mass lies at the center of the ring where there is no content of the body. So it can also lie outside the body
