The teak grows most abundantly in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. 

Teak is a tall deciduous tree. It has yellowish blonde to reddish brown wood. It attains the height of about 25 to 30 feet. Its scientific name is 'Tectona Grandis'. It grows as a huge tree and yields excellent quality wood. Therefore, teak wood has higher demand in national as well as in international markets. 

Teak is indigenous to India, Burma, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. It grows over a wide area in Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and planted in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal. Total area under teak forest in India is about 7285 hectare, out of which 3119 hectare being in Madhya Pradesh. It grows as one of the natural components of deciduous forests and there are plantations of teak in different states.
