and do the rough work over here

It is always good to do the rough work in the right side of the page where you are doing the math answer. You can divide the page into two parts.

Once you have completed one answer raw a separator line on the answer page.

This is the way your rough work will remain present in the answer sheet which your examiner will get to follow and check if necessary.
