It started in France in the early 1800s. The American painter Mary Cassatt was an impressionist who lived inFrance for sometime. There were also some British painters (notably Alfred Sisley), but the majority who started and continued from the movement were French.

Impressionism is a style of spot-paintingthat shows a variety of bright colors to reflect patterns of lightin persons and objects within. Impressionism started in the early 1800s in France. Mary Cassatt, an American impressionist lived in France for a while. There were some British impressionist also but most of who started and continued were French.
