Shehnahi was played traditionally in king courts and temple as mahakaleshwar, vishwanath temple and etc., and bhismillah khan change it by playing it on world stage and by giving traditional music concert, playing on red fort in 1947 and after which jawaharlal nehru give his famous speech " Tryst with destiny ". He also give music in films as gunj udhi shehnahi by Vikram Bhatt and song of this film is" Dil ka khilona hai tot jayaga" and this way he changed the way of shehnahi playing.
