In India, Electricity was first introduced in Kolkata (Then Calcutta). The first electric light was lit in Calcutta in 1879 and then in 1881. With Calcutta Electric Lighting Act in 1895, Kilburn & Co. obtain the licence of electrification in Calcutta as an agent of Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited.
