The Indian Rebellion of 1857 is also called the Indian Mutiny, the Sepoy Mutiny, North India's First War of Independence or North India's first struggle for independence. It began on 10 May 1857 at Meerut, as a mutiny of sepoys of the British East India Company's army.

The revolt of 1857 was also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857. This was the major revolution and first major uprising of Indians against the rule of British East India Company. Initially started at Barrackpoor and then to Meerut and then to Delhi

However the rebellion resulted in the victory of British but it was the first major spark that created the necessity of freedom among Indians.  

The revolt extended for one year from 1857 to 1858.  

Even the revolt ended giving victory to British it disabled the British ruler to carry their rule on the land with the same old policies.
