Everything around us can be categorized into two types of elements- metals or non-metals. Take a look…your book, your clothes, your pencil, your water bottle, your bag, the blackboard, the door and even your tiffin and the contents of it! Complex yes, but when broken down to its most basic form, on the basis of their physical attributes and chemical makeup, everything is either a metal or a non-metal. So, in Class 8 studying the functionalities of Metals and Non-Metals is very important.

Thus, it is very important to know what metals and non-metals are and how to distinguish between them.

Getting to know the periodic table

The periodic table is an arrangement of elements on the basis of certain chemical properties. In a row, generally, the metals are arranged on the left side and the non-metals on the right side. Table rows are periods and columns are called groups. Note that there are 92 elements that occur naturally out of which 70 are metals and 22 are non-metals.

From the earth crust we find minerals. From these minerals we extract different metals and non metals
