Ever since Rabindranath Tagore wrote Gitanjali, the Dalits started receiving some attention. This text written in 1913 spoke about the oppressions that the Dalits face every day.

Thereafter,  Premchand emerged in popularity for his Dalit literature. He was a sympathizer of those socially deprived and his text ‘Sadgati’ (1931) is a benchmark in Dalit literature.
