Answer:

A discount of flat 70%

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, successive discount of x% and y% is,

(x+y-\frac{xy}{100})\%

Thus, the successive discount of 40% and 30%,

=(40+30-\frac{40\times 30}{100})\%

=(70-\frac{1200}{100})\%

=(70-12)\%

=58\%

A discount of flat 70% > Discount of 58 %,

Hence, A discount of flat 70% is better than a successive discount of 40 % and 30%.

Concept:

The percentage is the mathematical measurement of two or more mathematical quantities, numerical values and fraction etc. out of total 100.

Given:

Given that two kind of discount one is successive discount of 40% and then 30% and another one is flat 70% discount.

Find:

Which discount is better to customer.

Solution:

Let the marked price of a object be = 100

After giving 40% discount the selling price is = 100*((100-40)/100) = 60

Now put more 30% discount on 60 then the selling price

= 60*((100-30)/100)

= 60*(70/100)

= 6*7

= 42

Now if we get flat 70% discount on initial price then the selling price would be = 100*((100-70)/100) = 30

The selling price less means the discount is better so in that case 70% flat discount is better since 42>30.

Hence,  clearly 70% flat discount is far better than successive discount of 40% and 30% respectively.
