Hagia Sophia is a unique piece of architecture.  It was built in 537 AD in Istanbul Turkey, and until 1453, it was an orthodox Christian patriarchal cathedral. During those years it was also the seat of patriarch of Constantinople.

However, during a brief period between 1204 AD to 1261 AD, it was a Roman cathedral for Catholics under the Latin empire.

The building got converted to a Mosque in 1453 and remained a mosque until 1931.

It was later converted to a museum in the year 1935.
