Human beings have diploid somatic cells, with 46 chromosomes. When a somatic human cell perform meiosis, it produces haploid cells which are monoploid. Human gametesare haploid and monoploid.

Answer:

Gametes are the reproductive cell which produces organism sexually. In human sperm and egg cells are gametes. Gametes are the haploid cells which mean that gametes have the half number of chromosome of a completely formed organism.

Gametes should be always haploid which is required to maintain the chromosome number of the species and it is achieved by meiosis which is a reduction division which found only in the germ cells. Suppose If gametes are diploid, the zygote which is formed by these gametes would have twice the number of chromosome. Therefore, to produce organism gametes have to be haploid.
