Born in Portsmouth on 7th February 1812, he read voraciously. He became a parliamentary journalist after leaving school. It was in 1836 that he won his first fame by 'The Pickwick Papers' which was issued in 20 monthly parts. Then written in monthly installments he came up with Oliver Twist and further endured his fame by writing Great Expectations, Christmas Carol, David Copperfield and so forth.
