HCI (Hydrochloride acid) is secreted at the stomach.

This acid perform 3 functions which are as follows:-

1. It convert the enzyme from inactive status to active status for example the pepsinogen is inactive enzyme, by the acid pepsinogen converted to active form called pepsinogen.
2. This acid kill all the bacteria, virus, fungus, if the germs found in the food.
3. The acid keep the food molecules/food materials fresh for 3-4 hours, since the food stay at the stomach for 3-4 hours.
