Strong acids dissociate immediately when dissolved with Water:
HCl(g) ------> H+(aq) + Cl-(aq)
You can call H+ as Hydronium Ion or a Proton.
Weak acids dissociate slowly :
CH3COOH(l) <----> CH3C00-(aq) + H+(aq)
Bases:
NaOH(s) ------> Na+(aq) + OH-(aq)
The OH- released is called Hydroxide Ion.
