During the British rule in India, an act was passed by the Imperial Legislative Council in Delhi on March 10th, 1919 which empowered the British officials to put Indians in jail without a trial.
The Rowlatt Act otherwise known as the Black Act or The Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act.
The act was named after Sir Sidney Arthur Taylor Rowlatt who was the president of the Rowlatt Committee under whose recommendation the law was passed.
