The general governer in India from about 1858-1947 was officially Viceroy and General-Governor in India.
He was commonly named as Viceroy of India - and he has initially been officially the head of administration of the British in India.
Later, only after the Indian independence confirmation back in 1947, all representative of the head of Indian state the new office was officially built in 1773.
