Though, it is more popular for the expedition that was massively mounted against Greece in the year 480 BCE. He, according to Herodotus, created the largest and most well-equipped fighting force. His father was Darius the Great (550-486 BCE) who tried to punish Athens for their support of the Ionian revolt against Persian rule and had invaded Greece in 492 BCE. The Persians could not be won the battle against Greek forces in 490 BCE, and Darius died before he could mount another offensive. It was, therefore, fell to his son Xerxes to avenge his father’s wish and,created an amassing army of such size and strength.
