Among Ag+, Hg2+ and Hg22+ the one which forms complex ion with NH4OH is - Ag+ .
- Ag in the form of halide like AgCl react with aqueous ammonia (NH3 in H20 that is NH4OH)
- so ,the reaction is -
AgCl + NH4OH —> [Ag ( NH3)2]1+ + Cl- + H2O
- The compound formed after AgCl is dissolved in aqueous ammonia means NH3 in H20 , it shows that the aqueous ammonia have NH4+ and OH- ion.
- As , AgCl is white colored ppt when it dissolved in Aqueous ammonia it formed colorless solution.
- This thing explains why above complex is formed.
