Cu(+) is colorless. The copper species exhibit their color due to unpaired electrons in their d orbit but Cu(+) has completely filled orbits. That is why Cu(+) has no color.

To make it very clear, we must also know about other given chemical species.

  • Cu(2+) produces blue color as it has partially filled orbits.
  • Cr(3) is yellow in color. The word chromium derives from the Greek word 'chroma' meaning color. This is the reason all chromium species are colorful.
  • Co(2)  exhibits pink color in solution but it is bluish when in dry state.
