Which are the main objective of multi-purpose project?

Multi-purpose project was first introduced by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru just after independence from British. These projects were meant to make a huge Dam in big rivers which are actually big wall like structure which act as an obstacle and helps control the flow of water and stores water in reservoirs.
Main Objective-
(a) The water stored in reservoirs is of great significance-
1) it can be used to irrigate a large amount of agricultural land (increasing agricultural production)
2) it is of great significance in case of droughts etc.
3) it helps in generating Hydro-electricity. (Water in reservoirs is made to fall from height and make the turbine move to generate electricity)
(b) It conrols the over flow of water in case of floods and heavy rainfalls in monsoon.
(c) Its water can be purified and suplied to those who dont have enough water or good water supply at home.
(d) Dams provide very good spot for fishing.
(e) Dams are good tourism attractions.
