India can be divided into the following physiographic divisions: (i) The Northern and Northeastern Mountains (ii) The Northern Plain (iii) The Peninsular Plateau (iv) The Indian Desert (v) The Coastal Plains (vi) The Islands.

The Himalayan region has the most rugged relief,it is divided into 3 parts (greater Himalayas,lesser Himalayas,shivalliks) this region has low temperature they reach high altitudes.

Peninsularis divided into 2 parts (central,deccan) it received moderate temperature, the deccan plateau is titled towards the east.
