The Sinhala speaking people constitute about 74 % population and Tamil speaking people constitute 13 % of population.

Tamil speakers can be further divided into Indian Tamils and Sri Lankan Tamils. Indian Tamils had come from India years ago and 13 % among them the Tamil speakers.
