The Gujjar Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir are the great herders of goat and sheep. In winter, they live with their herds in the low hills of the shivalik range.
The dry scrub forest provide good grazing grounds for their herds. In summer, they cross the Pir Panjal passes and enter the Kashmir valley.
