There were two articles in McLeery's suitcase that played a very crucial role in his escape from the prison. The first was the semi-inflated rubber. It contained pig's blood that Evans used to make it appear as if he was bleeding. The second article was the envelope containing the question paper. The question paper had changed plan and codes written on it. It had the information about the hotel that he had to stay at after the escape.

One was the semiinflated rubber ring for piles which contained pigs blood mixed with 1/10 of the volume of 3.8% trisodium citrate to prevent its clotting. The second was the correction slip which contained the message of the address and his index and centre no were the coordinates of the hotel he was to go.
