Carbon can form anion because Sodium has only One e- in their outermost shell and it is not possible for Na to gain 7 e- to complete their octet. but C has 4 e- in their outermost shell so it can do both lose or gain e- but actually C neither gain nor lose e-,it completes their octet by share the e- with other elements.In this case, C can form anion.
