Which atom has higher shielding effect Li and Na
Answers
Answer:
Na sodium has higher shielding effect
Definition-Shielding effect is also known as the screening effect. It is highly prevalent among the elements of higher atomic number. The nucleus in the atom attracts the electron and the electrons revolve around it.But in case of higher atomic numbered elements the outer shell electrons experiences minimal amount of forces. It is due to the inner orbital electron repulsions,as the number of electrons are higher. So they can be knock away from the atom easily.
This difference of attraction in atom in known as shielding effect.
Thus,Na means Sodium and its atomic number is 11 and Li means Lithium and its atomic number is 3.
Hence ,
Hence ,Sodium (Na) atom has higher shielding effect .
