IN MODERN PERIODIC TABLE: IN PERIOD, ON MOVING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, THE METALLIC CHARACTER OF ELEMENTS DECREASES AND THE NON METALLIC CHARACTER INCREASES. { METALS LOSE ELECTRONS TO FORM POSITIVE ION SO THAT IT IS CALLED ELECTRO POSITIVE. NON METALS GAIN ELECTRONS AND FORM NEGATIVE IONS SO THAT IT IS CALLED ELECTRONEGATIVE .} FROM THIS WE CAN UNDERSTAND THAT METALS IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PERIODIC TABLE IS THE MOST ELECTRO POSITIVE ELEMENT AND THE NON METALS PRESENT IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PERIODIC TABLE IS THE MOST ELECTRONEGATIVE ELEMENT. FOR EXAMPLE TAKE THIRD PERIOD IN THE MODERN PERIODIC TABLE: SODIUM,MAGNESIUM,ALUMINIUM, SILICON, PHOSPHORUS, SULPHUR, CHLORINE. IN THIS SODIUM IS THE MOST ELECTROPOSITIVE ELEMENT. AND CHLORINE IS THE MOST ELECTRONEGATIVE ELEMENT.
