Answer:
These are some of the things I do:
Give a friendly smile.
For example, I always offer a genuine smile to the cab driver who picks me up for my work.
Get involved in a conversation about their work and the different experiences they have had.
That's a personal habit of mine and I like to learn new things from different trades. So, it's a more of a hobby for me. So every time possible and when time permits, I do strike up a conversation. I do think, if someone shows a genuine interest in the persons work, the other person does feel a lot more important.
Offer refreshments if needed.
Like offer him a glass of water. Ask them if they have had their lunch. I also offer some snacks if the work is going to take a lot of time.
Thank them for their efforts and time.
And lastly but maybe the most important thing: I thank them when they have finished their work. I say "thank you" or "dhanyawaad" and mean it. We do have to do this a lot more often. For example, I have observed that none of my cab mates thank the cab driver when the get down at the office or their home. Thanking someone who provides you some kind of service, even if it's their job, is a basic gesture to show respect.
These gestures might help in giving them the respect they deserve and also encourage them in doing their job well.
