JRD Tata was an Indian aviator, businessman, Tata Group Chairman and Tata Sons shareholder. His mother was the first woman to drive a car in India and he became India's first pilot to be certified in 1929. He is best known for his many Tata Group companies like Tata Consultancy, Tata Motors, Titan Companies, Tata Salt, Voltas and Air India.
He was honored in the French Legion of Honor in 1983 and received the Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna in 1955 and 1992, the two highest civilian prizes in India.
