Pigeons are mentioned in the story of "The Last Class" written by Alphonse Daudet.

As France lost the war against Prussian forces, its districts, Alsace and Lorraine were captured in 1970.

The French teachers were no longer allowed to continue giving lessons. Hence, it was the last class of Mr. M.Hamel. And each student was sad about it. They wanted to gain the maximum knowledge about their native language. Even the coo of birds didn't distract them from the class.

The little boy, Franz, suddenly got interested in learning French and thought that people must be forced to leave their mother tongue. It is as natural to them as 'coo' is to pigeons.
