Blood group O is considered as purest blood because of the following reasons:

  • The blood type in humans depends on the presence or absence of antigens on the RBCs.
  • A person with blood group O has neither A nor B antigen present on its Red Blood Cells hence it is called the purest blood group.
  • Due to the lack of these antigens, blood group O is the universal donor as the blood can be transfused to any of the other blood groups.
