Covalent because alkyne is an organic compound made up of non metals such as carbon and hydrogen which share Electrons together by forming bonds . In the case of alkynes, it would be triple bonds.

Answer:

The bond in ethyne is covalent and not ionic.

Explanation:

  • Ethyne, it is also called as Acetylene. It consists of ‘two carbon atoms’ and the ‘two hydrogen atoms’. These are known as the unsaturated hydrocarbons.
  • These unsaturated compounds are holded by a ‘double bond’ or a ‘triple bond’.
  • This acetylene is holded by triple bond because of the less number of hydrogen ions in the compound.
  • Hence the covalent bond employed between these compounds include the one sigma and two pi bonds in general. Hence bond in ethyne is covalent and not ionic.
