At the time of revolt 1857, Lord Palmerston was the prime minister.

It is still discussed that whether the Indian rebellion of 1857 in British India was just a warriors' mutiny or a National revolt for the sovereignty.

But as per the July 1857, in the House of Commons, Benjamin Disraeli labeled it as a national revolt.
