China does recognise a Line of Actual Control which closely approximates most of the "so called McMahon line" in the eastern part of its border with India, according to a 1959 diplomatic note by Prime Minister Zhou Enlai.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which was considered as one among the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India, established under the CRPF Act on 24 October 1962, due to the cause of the Sino-Indian War which was fought in 1962. The ITBP was designed for deployment along India's boundary with China's Tibet self-governing province.
