CU + 2 is more stable than CU + 1depend on the hydration energy when they bond to water molecules youth CU 2 + Ion has greater charge then CU + 1 ion. the
extra energy needed for second ionization of the copper is more than compensated for by hydration so that CU + ion loses an electron to become CU 2 + which can then released this hydration energy
