According to Ohm's law, the product of current and resistance should remain constant if the potential applied is the same. Hence, if resistance is made four times, then current should be one-fourth.

Explanation:

According to Ohm’s law

V = IR

where

V= potential difference

I= Current

R = Resistance

We can also modify the above equation as

I = V/R ——- (1)

Now given that the potential difference across the two ends of the component decreases to half

Let the new potential difference be

Vʹ= V/2———(2)

Resistance remains constant across the electrical component

So the new current is drawn through the electrical component is

Iʹ = Vʹ/R———–(3)

Substitute the value of V’ from equation (2) in equation (3), we get

I’ = (V/2)/R

I’ = (1/2) (V/R)

Since V/R = I

I’ = (1/2) I

I’ = I/2

Therefore, the amount of current flowing through the electrical component is reduced by half.

I hope you got your answer.
