The defect caused when the chromosome breaks off and attaches with other chromosomes is called translocation.

Explanation:

The translocation takes place in two types, when there is no loss or gain in genetic material, it is called as balanced translocation and when there is loss or gain in genetic material, it is called as unbalanced translocation.

The unbalanced translocation is further divided into two types which are reciprocal and Robertsonian translocation. The reciprocal translocation leads to miscarriage. Robertsonian translocation leads to Down syndrome in children which is called as translocation downs.
