The Ganganagar was established by the Maharaja Ganga Singh. Most of the people of this city majorly depend upon agriculture almost 70-75% of people depend upon growing of grains majorly wheat.

The entire area is watered by the Sutlej river. Though this area is a part of the Thar Desert where agriculture is not so easy, it gets watered by the irrigation systems such as Gang Canal and Indira Gandhi Nahar Pariyojana which makes it rich.
