The eggs came first. Here comes two cases
The eggs that are not laid by the chicken.
For this case, the scientific explanation is: There are oviparous(egg laying) reptiles say Dinosaurs dwelling on the Earth right before the aves. So reptiles lay eggs ….(a) and reptiles are there on Earth before chickens …..(b)
From (a) and (b), Eggs came first before chicken.
The eggs that are laid by chicken.
The evolution that started million of years ago didn't had the same per se species of organisms as the Earth has today. Many of them have evolved to reach this specific status (arthropods apart). So here the scientists say there should be a proto-hen which is the pioneer for the modern hens and that laid egg which was again fertilized by a proto-rooster leading to its progeny-the proto chick. As evolution has it, the proto-chick was mutated to evolve(not an over night one but millennia of years) what we call the modern era chickens. So by this insight, it's again obvious that eggs, no matter, of chicken or not came before everything else. I wish, Plutarch had never asked this 'circle that never ends' type of question on the first hand.
PS: No, more questions on this chicken or egg, please. It has been already settled for once and all.
Foot notes:
FYI: Which Came First, The Chicken Or The Egg?
Addition:
‘This chicken or egg first?’ question got it's present day interrogative font by Plutarch many aeons ago in his book here- Plutarch's essays and miscellanies, comprising all the works collected under the title of "Morals", translated from the Greek by several hands, corr. and rev. by William W. Goodwin (a patient and curious one can go through this whole Talmudic-hair-splitting- book to find where exactly Plutarch asked this and what made him to ask so)
