Answer. Methane cannot be prepared by wurtz reaction. Methane (being the simplest alkane) has no C-C bonds, so cannot be synthesised this way. Because wurtz rxn prepare symmetrical alkanes but unsymmetrical alkanes can be prepared in mixture.
